New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt (新しいパンティ＆ストッキングwithガーターベルト, Atarashī Panti ando Sutokkingu wizu Gātāberuto) is the second season of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, which is slated to premiere in 2025. It will be produced by Studio Trigger and directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi.

Development

The second season of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt was first teased at the very end of "Bitch Girls: 2 Bitch", when a white text appeared which read "To be continued in next season". It was also confirmed in the secret track for Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt The Original Soundtrack. On December 28, 2010, a stream was held on UStream for the series. In the stream, series director Hiroyuki Imaishi stated that the second season is ready to be produced and it will follow up on the events of the previous season's finale. Although, many fans doubted this due to Gainax's notoriety of concluding their series with nonsensical endings.

Following the release of "Panty & Stocking in Sanitarybox", no more information was given about the status of the second season, and it seemed as if it was cancelled. On November 25, 2016, Gainax West teased an announcement for the series on Twitter. On December 15, Gainax West revealed that they were releasing a new project, holding an exhibition, and opening a pop-up café in Kobe Anime Street; all of this was "the first step of this project".

As the years had passed, hope for the second season was at an all-time low. Hiromi Wakabayashi, an animator for PASWG, revealed in a Reddit AMA in 2018 that he and the rest of the staff "really, really, REALLY do want to make it". However, he simply stated that "matters are quite complicated for PSG".

On July 2, 2022, Studio Trigger finally announced the long-awaited second season of the series at their Anime Expo panel. On July 1, 2023, Trigger revealed that they now owned the rights to Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt and premiered an announcement video for the upcoming second season. They also stated that they had lots of ideas for the series, some of which were showcased at their panel. In November 2023, Trigger employees confirmed that animators Mai Yoneyama and Sushio, both of whom worked on the first season, would be returning to work on the second season.

On July 4, 2024, more hype was built for the second season when Trigger revealed a new visual along with the new logo for the series. They also revealed the main staff for the season and announced that the season would premiere in 2025.
